The University of Kentucky provided the leadership to successfully revise and publish the National Beef Cattle Evaluation Consortium Sire Selection Manual. Dennis Duross in Agricultural Communications provided the editorial support and Darrh Bullock coordinated the chapter revisions and wrote/co-wrote three chapters. This manual is a valuable resource for Kentucky’s beef farmers, and beef producers nationally. We utilize the manual as the reference materials of UK’s Master Cattlemen program Genetics Section and all participants receive a copy for their use. This manual covers everything from the basics of selection and crossbreeding to the use of advanced genomic technologies. This project is a multi-state collaborative effort that we initiate and continue to coordinate; this is the third edition. The other institutions involved are the University of California – Davis, University of Nebraska, Kansas State University and Colorado State University. Funding for the printing was provided through a USDA-NIFA grant and for statewide distribution through the Kentucky Agricultural Development Fund. Five thousand copies have been printed and over 1,300 have already been distributed.
