Plan of Work: Building an Artist and Artisan Roster
Outcome: Initial Outcome
Greenup County has three school systems: the county school district, and two independent districts. Between all of these schools that service students in grades K – 12, there are twenty-one teachers who are dedicated to arts education. There are also independent arts studios that provide private arts instruction in our community. These studios employ roughly twenty-five arts specialists in the areas of dance, instrumental music, vocal music, theatre, and visual art. All area arts teachers have expressed a need for collaboration and communication between entities. This need inspired the creation of the Greenup Arts Professional Learning Community (PLC).
Through the Greenup Extension Arts Education Program, a database was created with information about all teaching artists and certified arts teachers in our community. An email list is used to share lesson information, performance opportunities, and collaboration requests. Allyson Martin, Kentucky Music Educators Association District 8 President says, “It is wonderful to have a local resource such as Greenup Arts that can bring teachers and students together from the public and private sector of arts education.”
The establishment of a Greenup Arts PLC is an initial outcome of the Greenup Arts Council’s programming. The long-term goal is to provide continued support, collaboration opportunities, performance opportunities, and professional development and improvement opportunities to all members and their students in the greater Greenup communities.
