As heroin continues to be a growing problem in Kenton County rising to epidemic proportions, home burglaries are on the rise. More than 70 burglaries were reported in Kenton County in 2013 (Source WXIX TV Station).  A class on home security was taught to residents to help address this issue. Topics discussed included:  what to do if you are locked out of your house; security measures to practice; and having a plan for your home and possessions.  A plan might include:  varying your routine; avoid leaving a message that you are not home; checking ID’s of service professionals; providing adequate outside lighting of your home; and stopping mail while on vacation. Examples of security devices were shown such as dead bolt locks, Patio door barriers, window locks, and fire proof safes.  Verbal feedback from class participants added to the content of the class as they shared personal stories of security issues in their homes.   Verbal evaluations indicated they would adopt some of the security practices shared and a written follow-up evaluation will be mailed later.
