In partnership with specialist Martha Yount an outdoor cooking series was planned and executed on social media platforms. The plan was to show people now to use cast iron cookware over the fire as well as baking in cast iron dutch ovens with charcoal. The series is ongoing and has been a successful out reach to this point. The outline of the series is based on cooking everywhere from you backyard to backcountry campsites.
The program content consisted of setup of outdoor cooking areas, types of dutch ovens and their uses, helpful equipment, food safety, including how to pack a cooler, and recipes from University of Kentucky cook wild, plate it up and SnapEd. Martha and myself recorded the full process of out door cooking and set up and recipe preparation. These were then combined using editing software to create a 15 minute video lesson on outdoor cooking with cast iron.
This program was very well received on social media platforms with a reach of over 3,100 people on youtube and facebook combined. Several comments and messages were sent with more questions about video content. This was the first video in the series with other videos coming in the future.
