By supporting and engaging young leaders, adults, organizations and communities experience direct benefits, through stronger connections to other young people in the community (Zeldin, McDaniel, Topitzes, & Lorens, 2001). Additionally, young people help to re-energize adults and counteract negative stereotypes of youth when they are successfully engaged in leadership within their communities (Zeldin, & Camino, 1999; Fiscus, 2003). On July 27, 2019 the 1st annual Shooting with Our Stars competition took place at the local trap shooting range. The event was hosted by the Christian County 4-H Shooting Sports club who invited Christian County Sheriff Tyler DeArmond and members of the local sheriff’s department to compete in trap shooting and archery. In attendance were seventeen 4-H members and eleven participants from the sheriff’s department. The team with overall combined scores would win a traveling trophy.

4-H members were able to network with local law enforcement in a positive setting as the adults were learning new techniques about the sports of trap and archery from the youth.  Deputy Ross Woodward of the Christian County Sheriff’s Department stated, “The Shooting with the Stars event was a great event for us to partner with 4-H Shooting Sports.  It gave us the chance to positively interact with the youth involved in the program to let them know as law enforcement officers we are there for them and want to see them succeed in their goals and interests.  To see deputies and the kids interact with each other having fun and enjoying their time together at the Quail Club helped with the fact that 4H won the shoot trophy that day.”
