Everyone can eat healthy if they try.  Unhealthy eating habits have contributed to obesity and chronic diseases.   According to the US Department of Health and Human Services one third of adults in the US are obese and 17% of children and adolescents are obese.  The link between good nutrition and healthy weight can reduce chronic disease risk.   Making sure that you make good choices as a child can carry on to adulthood. The agriculture and natural resources agent and family and consumer sciences agent video a show on AgLife twice a month to show how easy making a meal at home is.  We focus on healthy recipes that are inexpensive.  

Families watching the show AgLife, Agricultural and Family and Consumer Sciences Facebook pages and you tube watchers.

Local TV station 25 and 7.  Show airs every weekend on Saturdays at 6:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m.  and repeats on Sundays

The television station reaches 3 states, Kentucky, Illinois, and Indiana.  60,000 individuals are being reached each showing. On the Agricultural and Family and Consumer Sciences Facebook and you tube reach 95 plus viewers.  

Individuals are always committing about show and how much they enjoy watching and are trying the recipes.  We have seen an increase in participation in cooking classes.

We have used recipes from the Food and Nutrition Calendars provided through the Nutrition Education Program along with Plate it Up recipes from the KY Proud Project.

The Information we use is from the University of Kentucky Plate it Up Project and Nutrition Education Program.  We do research more in-depth with Ag Facts that the Agricultural Agents comes up with. One recipe is put together before the show and another while the recording is happening.  We do this so that we cut out time from having a recipe created and one finished.   It takes some planning to make this all happen in a timely manner.

The sources used are USDA receipts from the Nutrition Education Program Calendars that come out every year.  We also use the Plate it Up Kentucky Proud recipes that are created by a group of Extension Agents and they are tested and tried by Extension Agents and students in food science lab on campus.

The Extension Service is identified throughout the show.  Signage of Extension is in the back ground numerous times.   We wear UK aprons during the show.   We are also listed in the credits at the end to thank the Henderson County Extension Service.
