For over two decades, the Warren County Extension Service has partnered with the Farm and Home Show to deliver timely, research-based information from the University of Kentucky to households across South Central Kentucky. This 5-minute educational television segment airs on WBKO-13’s ABC and Fox affiliates, reaching a broad and diverse audience with content that supports both farm and home life.
Since July 1, 2024, Warren County Extension Agents have produced, edited, and aired an impressive 260 episodes. These segments cover a wide range of topics, including:
- Farm management and production practices
- Timely updates on insect and disease pressures
- 4-H youth development projects
- Healthy recipes and nutrition education
- Gardening tips and seasonal advice
- Consumer-focused topics relevant to everyday life
Each episode reaches approximately 15,000 viewers, with additional engagement generated through promotion on the Warren County Agriculture social media channels. This multiplatform approach significantly extends the show’s impact and accessibility.
The Agriculture Extension Agent alone has hosted and delivered 201 of these segments. With each segment valued at $3,300 in earned media, this contribution represents over $663,000 in media value—an extraordinary return on investment for public education and outreach.
The Farm and Home Show has become a trusted source of information for the community. Weekly calls, emails, social media messages, and in-person visits reflect the public’s interest in and appreciation for the content. Whether viewers are seeking advice on a recent gardening tip or revisiting archived segments for seasonal guidance, the show continues to foster meaningful connections between the community and the UK Cooperative Extension Service.
This long-standing media partnership not only amplifies the reach of Extension programming but also strengthens public awareness of the valuable educational resources available through the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service.
