Dare to Care: Safe Gardening

Plan of Work: Educating & Empowering Individuals and Families to Make Responsible Choices and Develop Life Skills

Outcome: Long-Term Outcome

The problem: Adults with disabilities lack knowledge and resources needed to live an independent life.  


The educational program response: Program seeks to encourage independent living skills. This months program focused on how to garden safely and starting a gardening club at the Jefferson County Extension Office. 


The participants/target audience: Young and older Adults with disabilities 


Other partners (if applicable): Dare to Care


Program impact or participant response: The program took participants through a step by step process on how to garden safely, what tools are needed, how this can be a form of exercise, and work towards the start of a gardening group. The program also aimed to increase their knowledge on farmers markets and benefits available to them. We had 35 participants in this program and are planning to continue working with them throughout the year.
