Success StoryNon-Traditional Homemaker Club (with KSU)

Non-Traditional Homemaker Club (with KSU)

Author: Carolina Robles

Planning Unit: Jefferson County CES

Major Program: Financial Education - General

Plan of Work: Educating & Empowering Individuals and Families to Make Responsible Choices and Develop Life Skills

Outcome: Long-Term Outcome

Describe the Issue or Situation.

Many individuals today face the dual responsibilities of working or seeking employment while also managing household tasks and caring for children. These non-traditional homemakers often experience high levels of stress and financial strain, with limited access to resources that support work-life balance, budgeting, and essential life skills.

Describe the Outreach or Educational Program Response (and Partners, if applicable).

In response to this need, a Non-Traditional Homemaker Club was established to support individuals balancing employment and home responsibilities. The program provides monthly educational sessions that focus on financial literacy, stress management, job-seeking skills, couponing, and strategies for grocery shopping and household purchases on a budget. Each session includes interactive activities and a lesson, designed to be engaging and practical. The program was offered once a month from 6–8 p.m. over a six-month period. This initiative was developed in collaboration with Jessica Marquez from Kentucky State University (KSU), with plans to adapt the content into a formal curriculum for future use. The program also collaborated with Eastern Area Community Ministries Program Coordinator Paty Robles, and the program is offered 100% in Spanish.

Provide the Number and Description(s) of Participants/Target Audience.

The program served 25 participants, all of whom identified as non-traditional homemakers, anyone is open to join but currently holds women with children and grandchildren between the ages of 30-70. These individuals are either employed or seeking employment while also managing household responsibilities and caregiving. The group included a mix of single parents, working parents, and caregivers aiming to improve their financial stability and daily life management skills.

Provide a Statement of Outcomes or Program Impact. Please note that the outcomes statement must use evaluation data to describe the change(s) that occurred in individuals, groups, families, businesses, or in the community because of the program/outreach.

The evaluation data will all be assessed at the ending date of the program which will be in August 2025.
