The Lawrence County Nutrition Education Program (NEP) Senior Assistant partnered with the Louisa West Elementary School to provide the LEAP program with Kindergarten and 1^st grade students. LEAP program is designed to help children learn healthy behaviors at a young age. The NEP Senior Assistant was able to read a story and provide a healthy snack related to the storybook to each class. All the students enjoyed the story books and were able to test on each of the books for accelerated reader points.

There was a total of 113 students that participated. Each student was given a pre and post survey. According to the evaluation results overall the improvement was 97% of students improved in one or more core areas. 89% of students improved knowledge or skill related to handling food safely, 89% of students improved in washing their hands before eating and 52% of students improved in kids being active.
