A recent report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention stated many children aged 1 – 5 years who live in Kentucky do not eat enough fruit and vegetables. In fact, only about 1 out of every 2 children eats a daily vegetable and 2 out of 3 children eat a daily fruit. Kristi participated in a multi-county National Nutrition Month collaboration during the month of March to educate families on the importance of good nutrition and adding more physical activity into their daily routines. This educational and informational campaign was created by the American Dietetic Association (ADA).
Kristi partnered with Alivia Faris, Scott County Family and Consumer Sciences Agent, and LaToya Drake, Nutrition Education Program Coordinator, to offer a Virtual National Nutrition Month Campaign. Kristi hosted LaToya and Alivia on the Farm and Home Show to share how individuals can make informed food choices, develop healthful eating and physical activity habits. The series includes topics on fueling our bodies, UK’s Fitblue program, NEP resources, and more. Approximately, 45,000 viewers received this educational content. Each segment is worth $3,300 dollars in earned media value, totaling $9,900 for the Cooperative Extension Service through this Virtual National Nutrition Month Campaign.
Additionally, Kristi partnered with the Warren County Extension Agents and SNAP-Ed Assistant by posting educational facts and tips on the digital sign in front of the extension office. This increased office visits and calls, as well as requests for nutritional resources. Kristi has a list of individuals who plan to participate in a summer nutrition education series.
