Following the devastating tornadoes that hit western Kentucky in December 2021 the Beef Extension Team transitioned our scheduled Beef Webinar Series that was scheduled for the Tuesday after the event to address disaster relief for beef cattle producers. This webinar was a roundtable discussion included: County Extension agents with prior experience in disasters and one that was currently impacted by the tornadoes, the Commissioner of Agriculture, representative from the Governor’s Office, Farm Bureau, Kentucky Cattlemen’s Association, the CAFE disaster coordinating team and all available beef Extension specialists. The primary focus was informing the beef community that was impacted how they could access resources and for their neighbors to were spared and wanted to help, how they could contribute in a meaningful way. The webinar was hosted live and recorded for later use, this video was posted on YouTube and publicized for farmers in need. There were over 50 participants on the live session and over 75 have viewed the YouTube video. Though the number of participants was relatively low, the impact on those in need was great.
