Cooking Through the Calendar
One of the outcomes of the 2020-21 pandemic, was the realization that preparing food at home can be easy, healthy, and sometimes necessary. For many, this concept was either new or not recently practiced. Seeking a means to address this need, Fayette Extension Family and Consumer Sciences provided fun and interactive, virtual food preparation workshops to assist with how and what to prepare for family meals. Cooking Through the Calendar occurs monthly and has reached an audience of over fifty participants in need of food prep assistance. Featured recipes included NEP approved recipes as well as Plate It Up Kentucky Proud selections based upon seasonal local food commodities. Post surveys indicate that 100% were motivated to prepare the featured recipes; 20% cooked along during the presentation; 80% gained information on teaching children to cook; 90% were first time users of these extension food recipe resources. 100% of participants expressed appreciation for access to Extension programming when in person was not available and endorsed having this option.
