Family and Consumer Sciences Extension encourages families to make proactive choices to improve individual health and wellbeing, whether choosing a low fat, nutritious diet, increasing health literacy for chronic disease prevention or participating in regular physical activity. People are living longer. Kentucky's current population of seniors is 16.4 percent. By 2040 it is projected that every district will see an increase that is age 65 and older.
Identify, develop and evaluate programs and policies that promote healthy aging in Kentucky. Families will improve health span through lifestyle choices and behaviors related to overall health and well being.
Kentuckians will work on their physical, mental, and nutrition education.
Kentuckians of all ages adapt healthy lifestyle choices, including diet, physical activity, no smoking, binge drinking.
More Kentucky households prepare for caregiving.
Kentuckians will seek health screenings and vaccines.
Older Kentuckians will work to prevent falls.
Kentuckians will address mental health issues.
Kentuckians will understand the importance of lifestyle choices and behaviors throughout their lifespan on their overall health, well-being, mental, and life quality.
Kentuckians will learn how to make healthy lifestyle choices.
Kentucky will learn that caregiver preparation is an important issue to face.
Kentuckians learn about resources that will enhance their life quality, safety and to support aging families.
Initial Outcome: Seniors will learn about fall prevention and how to adapt healthy lifestyles.
