Cumberland County Farmer's Market

Major Program: Farmer's Markets

The Cumberland County Farmer’s Market has went through a lot of changes in the last year. The market moved locations twice and added the WIC program. Vendor participation stayed steady at eight throughout most of the market season (April to October). Vendors offered a variety of products from meat, bread, jams and jellies, vegetables, fruits, etc. Three vendors have added high tunnels to their production system to extend their season. In Cumberland County, 100% of the school system qualifies for free meals. This along with children thinking that their food comes from the grocery store (when asked last year during a program) is the reason why there was a need to go into the schools to teach about agriculture and nutrition. JR Master Gardeners

In the late winter of 2018, the local homeschool group leader came to the Extension Office asking if the staff could put together something garden and nutrition related for their students. Beginning in March of 2018, the Family and Consumer Science agent, SNAP-ED assistant, and the ANR agent, started a JR Master Gardener Program with the homeschool group.
