According to the Centers for Disease Control more than 40% of Elliott Count's 7280 residents are obese with 78% of the population being overweight. Quickfacts.org reports 14% of the population has been diagnosed with diabetes and 42.8% report they get little to no exercise. Findings of the CDC say that if current trends continue, by 2050 one in three people will be diagnosed with diabetes. They also report a loss of 10 pounds can help prevent or delay the onset of diabetes. These staggering statistics encouraged the FCS council to identify health and physical fitness as a major program emphasis for the FCS extension agent. According to HealthFacts.org, the drug arrest rate for Elliott County was 808 per 100,000 people in 2007 with the state having 1,322 per 100,000 people
During the 201/19 reporting year, 40 people in Elliott County will improve their health.
100 middle school students will know the consequences of prescription drug use.
50 people will work toward accomplishing goals set in programs and activities conducted by the Elliott County Cooperative Extension Service FCS programs
All Elliott County Middle School students will devise ways they can say no to prescription drug use and practice doing so.

According to the CDC, Elliott County has an obesity rate greater than 40%. To face the epidemic, using CDC/UK grant funds, the Partnership for a Healthy Elliott County placed an outdoor gym at Isonville Elementary. According to the principal and teachers at the school, the outdoor gym helped them leverage funding to extend recess time from twenty to thirty minutes. The area that once was the Elliott County Economic Development site has slowly become a recreation and events area. It is home to the 4-H shooting sports range, 4-H livestock pavilion, youth soccer, a fit trail, and the Farmers' Market pavilion. Major Program: Plate It Up! Kentucky Proud
Elliott County FCS has promoted Plate It Up, Kentucky Proud since its inception. This year we are taking it to a higher level by challenging local citizens to use the recipes. To combat the obesity epidemic in Elliott County the Extension Family and Consumer Sciences Council and the Partnership for a Healthy Elliott County designed a program called Forever Fit Good Habits for a lifetime. 22 participants enrolled in the program that is point based with the competition against themselves.
