Situation:

With continued increasing amounts of obesity, diabetes, farm safety accidents, increased cost of food and lack of physical activity in Spencer County, agents will make residents aware of the ways to recognize the issues. Extension Council helped to develop this plan.

Long-Term Outcomes:

Decrease the number of local farm related accidents. Reduce chronic illness due to poor nutrition and activity. Increase awareness of proper child care practices.

Intermediate Outcomes:

Adults will increase physical activity, will implement healthy food choices, and learn how to cook nutritious meals. Youth and adults will accomplish safe food practices.

Initial Outcomes:

Private pesticide applicators will learn how to properly mix and apply restricted use pesticides. Residents will gain knowledge of proper food safety, nutrition, physical activity, and farm safety.

Evaluation:

Outcome: Participants will become certified pesticide applicators.

Indicator: Number of certified applicators in Spencer County.

Method: Observation and testing.

Timeline: Three months after program.


Outcome: Youth and adults will practice healthy cooking, food safety, and increased physical activity.

Indicator: Increase positive diet and activity will decrease chronic disease.

Method: Pre and post surveys.

Timeline: Immediate Post Surveys.


Outcome: Youth will develop an understanding of the consequences that go along with their actions.

Indicator: Increase awareness of being self-consciousness of your actions.

Method: Pre and post surveys.

Timeline: September to May.

Due to Covid-19 the Spencer County Extension Agents had to learn how to change our ideas on programming to reach our community.  FaceBook Live, FaceBook, and the office website have served as tools to make the pavilion projects to go a huge success in Spencer County.Over 1900 projects have been given to members of the community through the pavilion projects.   950 kits have been distributed to students through our partnerships with Taylorsville Elementary School, Spencer County Middle

Lunch & Learn

Many American’s only have a minimal amount of extra time, this is the same for Spencer County Residents. That is why the Spencer County FCS agent and the program assistant developed a lunch and learn program at the Spencer County Library where residents could come once a month to learn various information on such topics as How to Get Organized, Stress Management, Composting and basic nutrition for one hour. This the second year for this program and the turnout more than doubled.On average
