Major Program: Making Healthy Lifestyle Choices (general)
Plan of Work: Health, Safety, and Nutrition
Outcome: Long-Term Outcome
Many American’s only have a minimal amount of extra time, this is the same for Spencer County Residents. That is why the Spencer County FCS agent and the program assistant developed a lunch and learn program at the Spencer County Library where residents could come once a month to learn various information on such topics as How to Get Organized, Stress Management, Composting and basic nutrition for one hour. This the second year for this program and the turnout more than doubled.
On average there were 10 adults that attended each session. They learned how to compost in small spaces, the benefits of getting organized, how to cook and prepare quick and easy Snap Ed recipes, as well as basic nutrition to sustain a healthy life.
Due to this program residents who attended have become more aware of choices in their life that were not beneficial to their overall well-being. They can use this information to live healthier lifestyles and teach others to do the same. This will in turn cause people in the community to make more nutritious choices, and use their own composting to grow vegetables at home, resulting in fewer health problems and less money spent on medical services in the future.
