Rural communities face greater barriers to healthy eating and being physically active, which contributes to higher rates of obesity and chronic disease compared to their urban counterparts. In 2014, six Kentucky counties with an adult obesity prevalence of more than 40% received support from CDC to implement environmental changes promoting healthy eating and active living.
