Due to the pandemic, traditional programming had to take a back seat and new programming ideas had to be developed. One technique that the Butler County Extension Agent for Family & Consumer Sciences used was social media. Since, families were not gathering during the holidays to celebrate as they did in the past, some were now going to be preparing those holiday meals for the first time. To help with this, Talking Turkey, a video series, was developed to show the process of purchasing, thawing and steps to cooking a turkey. Other video’s on preparing the “side items” were also developed to help finish out the meal.
Facebook was utilized to show Talking Turkey videos. To create these video’s, we used 4-Her’s, Agents, and family members. There was a total of over 10,000 individuals reached and 3000 views. One viewer stated she utilized the videos to prepare her turkey and to prepare the pie crust for the dessert. Other viewers have commented on the usefulness of the video’s. This led to the creation of a video on how to freeze strawberries and make freezer jam.
