Tasty and Healthy Meals

The Pike County Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) Assistant partnered with Goodwill Industries to provide healthy eating and lifestyle education to clients.  

Using the Healthy Choices for Every Body curriculum, the EFNEP Assistant taught participants how to make healthier food choices using MyPlate; how to save money at the grocery store, including menu planning; and how to cook healthier on a budget. In addition, participants earned how to read labels; determine food portionslimit intake of fats, sugar, and sodium; and food safety 

Nine (9) participants entered the program with 100 % graduating. Evaluations showed that participants made improvements in the following categories:  Ninety percent (90%) improved diet quality; 90% improved food resource management skills; 85% in physical activity; and 84% in food safety habits.  

One participate said, “While in this nutrition class, I have learned that even recipes that do nosound like it would be good, actually turns out to not only taste good but also be healthy; and just because it taste good doesn’t mean that it is good for you.” Another participate said, “am excited to use these recipes on my family and be able to feed them tasty and healthy meals and still stay on a budget.
