During the COVID-19 pandemic, many youth spent the majority of their time in a virtual classroom. Having to spend more time secluded indoors versus in a classroom with peers can be a difficult adjustment for kids. Therefore, the Powell County Family and Consumer Sciences Extension Agent teamed up with the Powell County Health Coalition to teach youth the benefits of exercise on mental and physical health.  The group assembled and distributed over 200 physical activity kits to students at the Powell County Public Schools. Included in the kits were Frisbees, resistance bands, jump ropes, and stress balls. Kits also included instructions on how to use the resistance bands, easy physical activity games students can do at home with family and friends, as well as information on nutritious snacks.  Community members safely picked up the physical activity kits during a drive-through Community Health Fair. The small success of being more physically active and preparing healthy snacks will hopefully instill healthy habits in youth that will contribute to a healthier lifestyle in the long-term.
