Major Program: Horticulture, Consumer and Home

Plan of Work: Unrelated to a specified County Plan of Work

Outcome: Intermediate Outcome

In an effort to adapt to changes in program delivery brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic, the Horticulture Agents in 6 counties of District Four (Central Kentucky) collaborated to offer the Everyday Gardener Webinar Series. This 6 week series taught by agents provided educational classes related to horticulture. Over 100 participants registered and attended the classes.

Those completing the evaluation survey expressed appreciation of the:

  • wide variety of programs offered, including entomology, lawn care, tool care, and how to plant and grow garlic, fall bulbs, and microgreens
  •  the virtual format which allowed participants to still get valuable information during the pandemic
  • and the materials provided as giveaways over the course of the series

All of the participants expressed plans to adopt one or more practices learned during the series such as fertilizing and seeding the lawn at the proper time, weed control, soil conservation practices including soil testing, planting garlic in the garden, replanting and dividing bulbs, adding more bulbs to the garden and selecting new varieties, growing microgreens, and proper tool care and maintenance.

Of those participants who filled out the survey, 98% said they would love to see more virtual gardening classes such as The Everyday Gardener Series.
