Grab n Go Educational Series

Author: Jane Proctor

Planning Unit: Trimble County CES

Major Program: Family Development General

Plan of Work: Enhance Life Skills and Build Consumer Awareness

Outcome: Initial Outcome

The COVID19 pandemic not only created havoc, uncertainty, and stress for local communities but for the world. However, it also created an opportunity for the Trimble County Cooperative Extension Service.  Because stay at home requirements and social distancing were implemented, “Grab n Go” educational packets were utilized to reach community residents. Family focused themed topics such as cooking, gardening, fitness, meal planning, and nutrition were made available to community members.  “Cook together, eat together” was a packet that focused on family time while cooking together.  The pandemic also brought concern and fears with families in regard to their food supply resulting in a resurgence in the interest of gardening.  Therefore, several family themed garden packets were made available that included beginning gardening, harvesting, and food preservation.     Participants then posted pictures on social media of cooking with the family and items they prepared. In addition, other participants posted pictures of their progress such as starting the seeds and the seedlings transplanted.
