For the past several years the Boyd County Extension Horticulture program along with the Boyd County Master Gardener Volunteers, have offered a holiday wreath making program. For many participants this program is an annual holiday family event they look forward to and for some it is there first experience with the Cooperative Extension Service, but it usually isn't their last. Participants make their own fresh holiday wreath and decorate it with ribbon and ornaments, while they are learning different types of greenery and how to care for their wreaths, they are also learning more about what the educational programs the Cooperative Extension Service has to offer for everyone in the family. This program has become a great recruiting tool for volunteers and a great advertising tool. This year however, was challenging with the Covid-19 pandemic and the thought of cancelling the program was considered. The public began calling in September to inquire if this program would be able to be held this year. The idea of taking orders and participants receiving a "wreath kit" was created and while the number of wreaths made for the 2020 season was only a little less than half of what was made in 2019, the feedback from the public was that they were glad to see that the Cooperative Extension Service was able to adapt to the situation occurring within our communities right now and still go above and beyond to offer a modified yet quality program during a tough holiday season for so many.
