The COVID-19 pandemic presented many challenges for the schools as well as for the way programming was being conducted by the Extension Service. With the Rowan County Extension Office being on an office rotation schedule and several programs being canceled, a new way of meeting the needs of the community needed to be done. In an effort to help address the issue of the pandemic, just like other agents across the state, the Rowan County Extension Office offered Grab-n-Go Program Kits to give the youth something other than NTI packets to focus on during the challenging times. The office staff all worked collaboratively to provide this service to our community.

Grab-n-Go Program kits that were implemented and distributed included Plate It Up Coloring Books, Personal Hygiene, Physical Activity, Fun Cooking, Bird Feeders, Special Olympic, Woodworking, Cornbread, Gardening, Canning, Fall Victory Gardens, Do It Yourself Craft Kits for the Nursing Home and Lunch Bag scrapbook Albums. In total, over 900 4-H and FCS “Grab-n-Go Kits” were distributed to the youth and adults in our community. The community responded very positively to the bags. When the kits were assembled, they were put out by the front door of the courthouse in a plastic container. The kits didn’t last no time! Thank you for doing the kits, my kids have enjoyed the programs and looks forward to them.
