LaRue County Kentucky has a population of 14,398.

KentuckyHealthFacts.org list an  obesity rate of 34.7 percent with 15.3 percent being at or below poverty

level.

13.8 percent are food insecure according to  data from Feeding America.

LaRue County Cooperative Extension Service, LaRue County Expanded Food and Nutrition Program (EFNEP) Assistant and LaRue County Agriculture and Natural Resource Agent partnered with Kentucky Dairy Development Council in hosting a Dairy  Product and Produce distribution.

1000 boxes containing  2 gallons of milk, flavored milk, cottage cheese, sour cream,  Swiss cheese, and

dip , as well as  1700 Produce Boxes containing  potatoes, onion, celery, squash , radishes, apples and other produce were distributed along with recipes.

By distributing these boxes , fresh dairy products as well as fresh produce were  made available to 1250

Families to help alleviate food insecurity .

Recipe distribution encouraged proper preparation and  consumption of fresh produce and dairy products. Increased consumption of healthy foods will lead to making healthier choices and reduce the obesity rate

in the future.
