Plan of Work: Becoming Fit Physically
Outcome: Initial Outcome
4-H Boot Camp offers a multi discipline approach to helping the youth in our community to become a stronger member and role model. Based off military boot camp, the initial focus is on respect, team work and physical fitness. Healthy eating, first aide, gun safety, citizenship, leadership, communications and improving self-esteem are also part of the program. This program is geared for 3rd through 5th grade boys and girls.
This fall several “veterans” of past boot camps demonstrated what they have learned by taking on more leadership roles and mentoring new recruits. One young lady had her squad marching up and down the hallways in step and calling cadence. The highlight was a sixth grade young man, who three years ago couldn’t keep his left from right straight, lead the entire group in drill and ceremony. He even corrected (in a respectful manner) a high school JROTC Cadet when he was giving commands incorrectly.
This program encourages youth to take accountability for themselves, set high standards and work to achieve them. 100% of the youth try to set the right example in the classroom by using sir or ma’am with teachers. 100% say they will be more active and exercise every day. 100% feel that they know what to do to assist others in a medical emergency. 100% say they feel better about themselves and their future. 100% of the caregivers, teachers and school administration feel that the program has a positive influence of the participants and other students in the school.
