 The Perry County Cooperative Extension Service was asked to do a public relations event to 

demonstrate the various ways families could utilize fresh vegetables. In alliance with the Perry County 

Farmers Market, and Fresh Stop Market. A demonstration was held for 10 families using Nutrition

 Education Program Curriculum, ‘’Health Choices for Every Body” and the recipe “Farmers Market Skillet 

Bake”. Topics were Food Safety, Knife skills, and the benefits of eating fresh vegetables.

During the demonstration of the recipe and discussion of safe food handling practices, a participant gave

 testimony,      

she acknowledged learning about food safety and cooking skills in a series of nutrition 

education classes she had attended a collaboration with Perry County Extension Service and Hazard Community Technical College.

She stated “she could not and did not cook for her children”. Her children only ate frozen pizza and Ramen Noodles.  

After attending the nutrition classes armed with her new found knowledge along with her new confidence in her ability to cook for her children. She felt she could now provide her children with healthier options. This mother now attends other food and cooking classes. Quote “ My children will now eat my cooking and no longer have to eat frozen pizza and Ramen noodles.
