Warm Up America

Author: Anne Stephens

Planning Unit: Greenup County CES

Major Program: Arts and Community Health

Plan of Work: Creativity Club, Woodcarving Club, Crochet and Knitting Guild, Photography Club

Outcome: Intermediate Outcome

The Greenup County Crochet and Knitting Club that works with the Greenup Arts Extension Program has volunteer members who have been working at home throughout the pandemic of 2020. They continued to communicate digitally and stay creative and connected through their common interest in yarn and community service. When the restrictions allowed for an in-person work session, they respectfully complied with all rules and met at the office to plan their next project. The volunteer leader led by example, stayed in communication with the agent, encouraged club members to continue working remotely, and kept the spirits of the group high during a difficult time. There was no conflict within the group.

The club has chosen www.warmupamerica.org as their next service project. They will crochet or knit 500 7x9 rectangles that will be used to make blankets for homeless shelters. Each member of the club will contribute to the project that will fill volunteer hours in order to help others in our community. This is the second service project the club has undertaken since its formation.
