Kentucky 4-H engages youth through hands-on experiences where they can build leadership competencies starting at an early age. As 4-H members get older and in the senior level and have a desire to develop their leadership skills the Kentucky 4-H Leadership Boot Camp offers a two-day intensive program focused on leadership development. The youth have the opportunity to participate in exercises that will empower them to lead within their community at an advanced level.
This year three Hart County 4-H Youth participated in the state program. 97.6% of the participants reported that due to their involvement in 4-H Leadership Boot Camp they are now prepared to apply for a Kentucky 4-H State Officer position or state leadership board. Hart County had a 4-H member step up and run for a State 4-H Officer position this year. He states “The 4-H Leadership Boot Camp helped to prepare me for running for a state officer position. Hearing from current 4-H State Officers gave me more insight on applying for a state leadership role”.
100% felt more confident in an interview setting, understand the importance of an elevator speech, value the act of showing appreciation to others, and understand the value of teamwork. 97.6% of 4-H Leadership Boot Camp participants believe they will be better leaders and will be able to easily implement skills they learned when they return home.
One 4-H member from Hart County that attended the 4-H Leadership Boot Camp was very shy and not sure about participating in the camp. However, after attending she stated “I really learned a lot from the 4-H Leadership Boot Camp. I met new friends and feel like I am more prepared for the mock interview contest.
