Pest Management Field at UKREC Provides In-Depth Information

The availability of in-depth pest management information for Farmers and consultants in western Kentucky is limited due to most field days involving a multitude of topics that revolve around agronomic's.  The first Pest Management Field Day at the UKREC was organized to allow farmers, crop consultants, and industry representatives to gain in-depth insight in to the research being conducted by the University of Kentucky pest management research teams.  The field day was held on July 2, 2019 at the University of Kentucky Research and Education Center in Princeton, KY.  The day featured presentations from Dr. Kiersten Wise, Dr. Erin Haramoto, and Dr. Travis Legleiter as well as multiple graduate students from the weed science and plant pathology programs.   The field day also included a walking tour of all the weed science research plots at the UKREC.  The field day was attended by 30 farmers, crop consultants, Extension Agents, and industry representatives who represented approximately 111,000 acres of corn, soybean, and wheat from across Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, and Tennessee.    Attendee survey’s indicated that the field day provided information that was worth an average of $12.25/ acre, for a total impact of approximately $1.4 million dollars.
