Getting information to clients during a pandemic

Major Program: Making Healthy Lifestyle Choices (general)

Plan of Work: Unrelated to a specified County Plan of Work

Outcome: Initial Outcome

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, our County Extension Office had to remain closed to the public, which meant we could not have our usual in-person, cooking, nutrition or project classes. As Extension Agents, we still needed to get information and activities to our clientele; we just had to think outside the box. Majority of the state started using Grab and Go kits to get publications and activities to our county residents during this difficult time. Daviess County Family and Consumer Sciences followed suit and began giving out Grab and Go kits over the course of twelve weeks.  The Family and Consumer Sciences extension agent collaborated with our SNAP Assistant and a local green house to be able to put out Grab and Go kits on various topics including; Gardening, Nutrition, Food Safety and Cooking, Physical Activity, Self-care, outdoor fun and safety and Pet Safety around the Holiday. Over the course of twelve weeks, we reached 151 adults and 293 children in Daviess County.

We gave QR codes with some of the kits for an evaluation with only one return, but we did ask families to post on our Daviess County Extension Facebook Page. We had several comments including:

"We have really enjoyed the "bags" thank you for sharing them."

"We truly appreciate everything ya'll do! These have been great."
