NEP Grab and Go’s a Success!

Planning Unit: Ohio County CES
Major Program: Nutrition and Food Systems General
Outcome: Long-Term Outcome
Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Daviess County Cooperative Extension Office has remained closed to the public, which meant they could not have any of their usual in-person nutrition and cooking classes. Information still needed to be shared with the residents of Daviess County, so it was time to think out of the box!
Following several other counties across the state of Kentucky, the Daviess County SNAP-Ed Nutrition Education Program Assistant partnered with the Family and Consumer Sciences Agent, Horticulture Agent, and Agriculture and Natural Resources Agent to put out Grab and Go kits on various topics including; Gardening, Nutrition, Food Safety, Meal Planning, Physical Activity, Cooking for Kids, and Healthy Cooking during a pandemic. To date, 20 different Grab and Go kits have been created, reaching 424 adults and 484 children.
We gave QR codes with some of the kits, for an evaluation, with only one return. But, we did ask families to post on our Daviess County Extension Facebook Page. We had several comments including:
“We have really enjoyed the “bags”. Thank you for sharing them!”
“We truly appreciate everything ya’ll do! These have been great.”
