After talking with a few farmers/producers in Fayette County, I realized there may be a serious need for H2A or migrant workers to have some guidance and health related information in Spanish once they arrive.  H2A employees are extremely important to many of our farmers/producers and when spring time rolls around, these producers rely heavily upon them in regard to their farming operation.  No matter what country some of these folks may come from, in many cases they are from very isolated or remote areas and may not have access to the latest news or up-to-date information on what we have been experiencing with COVID-19.   As serious of a health concern as COVID-19 has been, I felt it necessary to provide these producers with translated information they could give to their H2A employees.  Communication between employers and migrant H2A employees can be difficult due to the language barrier.  The packets I sent out included COVID-19 information and guidance, best health practices, and producer guidelines all translated into Spanish.  I also included some guidelines for the employers so they can maintain a healthy workplace environment for all the H2A employees that will be arriving within the next few months.  Doing this would not only help those employees and their coworkers to stay safe and healthy, but also to be on the same page as the producer in developing a plan moving forward to adhere to proper health guidelines in their given work environment.  I also did a follow up mailing that included washable masks for 12-15 workers per farm.
