Major Program: 4-H Family and Consumer Science Core Curriculum

Plan of Work: Acquiring basic Life skills in Family and Consumer Sciences

Outcome: Intermediate Outcome

In March of 2020, the Johnson Cooperative Extension Service along with government officials, local leaders, school personnel and community members were challenged to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic and offer ways to be of service and offer programming to our communities and clientele. As a result, the 4-H Youth Development program provided participation opportunities through the Johnson County 4-H Photography Contest, and the Kentucky 4-H Wildlife Photo Challenge offered by Ashley Osborne, Program Specialist from the State 4-H Office. Over 100 photographs were submitted by 43 people. Originally, the local contest was for youth only, but upon receiving photos taken by adults too, we adapted to include Adult Photography Divisions as well. The participants received category recognition, overall 1st-3rd award placing and several honorable mentions. The Johnson County Adult 4-H Council also offered cash awards to the top 3 places overall in both Youth and Adult Divisions. All participants received a calendar and notecards featuring their photo submission. When sorting through the submissions, it was noted that one of our participants was a long time 4-H Photography participant. This young lady attended a 4-H Photography Workshop Series in 2016 and has continued developing her skills! She entered and won the Mammal Category in the 2020 State Kentucky 4-H Wildlife Photo Challenge. This young lady continues to develop her photography skills and build upon the skills gained during her participation in the Johnson County 4-H Photography Workshop Series.  The first two photographs belong to this young lady, Haley Sorrell.

I have also included the Overall Award winners 1-3rd place photos for both youth and adults in the Johnson County  4-H Photography Contest for your viewing opportunity.
