Planning Unit: Scott County CES

Major Program: 4-H Youth Development Programming

Plan of Work: Basic Life Skills for Youth and Adults in Scott County

Outcome: Initial Outcome

During the Covid-19 pandemic 4-H Youth Development Agents across Kentucky had to find a different why to reach their youth through programming. Scott County 4-H Youth Development Agent along with other 4-H agents in Kentucky started by reaching out to their youth through the brown bag project or in Scott County “Project Porch”. The Scott County 4-H Youth Development Agent planned and implemented fifty Project Porch kits each week for nine weeks that youth could pick up on the front porch of the Scott County Extension Office. These kits were available for youth ages 5- 18 years of age and were available on a first come, first served basis. The 4-H Youth Development agent marketed the Project Porch through the 4-H Facebook page and month 4-H Newsletter. The Project Porch kits that were implemented included 4-H content areas such as Agriculture, Natural Resources, Family and Consumer Sciences, and Science Engineering, and Technology. Through Project Porch youth were able to continue to learn life skills, feel a part of 4-H, and some of the projects went along with school curriculum which helped with their NTI packets. Over 60 families and over 100 youth in Scott County were able to participate in the Project Porch.
