Often there is little or no warning when an emergency is going to occur. Planning can help in getting through these situations. Having a plan and knowing what to do will help to prevent panic, fear, and physical harm. An emergency plan will also help to ensure safety for all citizens.

Addressing this issue, a class on” Are you Ready for an Emergency” was presented to Kenton County residents. The class topics included identifying weather related emergencies, preparing a family plan of where to meet and a phone chain during an emergency, also preparing a family emergency kit. Discussion revolved around items to include in the kit; food, clothing, medical items, flashlight, radio, water, personal items, sanitary items and to be prepared for 3 days. Participants discussed personal items that they would include, if they had a first aid kit., and the threat of the CONVID-19 virus to personal safety.

An online evaluation was emailed to participants to determine any behavioral changes. Results of the survey indicated increased knowledge of emergency preparedness, 7 out of 8 had items to include in an emergency kit such as water, flashlight, first aid kit, batteries, blanket, and non- perishable food, and 7 out of 10 respondents had a plan in place for emergencies.
