Fulton County 2020 Farm Bill Decision Making Training Session

With the new 2020 Farm Bill required producers with important decision to make concerning the programs sign-ups with the individual farm numbers.  Due to the Farm Service Agency (FSA), not being allowed to assist in education landowners and producer about these program the Extension Serviced aided in this process in educating producers on this process.  The Fulton County Agriculture and Natural Resource Extension Agent partnered with the Fulton/Hickman FSA office to host a meeting to producers on these decisions.  During this session, 40 local producers along with staff from the Fulton/Hickman FSA Office received information changes in the Farm Bill, demonstrations using decision calculator developed at the University of Illinois and spread sheets developed at Kansas State University.  These programs allowed each producer to use their production records to determine the proper decision correct program decisions for each of their farm number.   After the presentation of the material, the FSA staff discussed the actual sign-up process and urged the producer to sign up early as opposed to waiting till the March deadline.  In talking with a dozen producers after the meeting they expressed how informative the information was and they were comfortable in making these decisions.   After the meeting, information concerning the Farm Bill Sign-up were sent to the local retailers, FSA, and in program newsletters, social media, and email for those that could not attend.   After the deadline for the Farm Bill sign-up, the Fulton Co. ANR agent talked with the Fulton/Hickman FSA office concerning the Farm Bill sign-ups, they stated compared to the previous Farm Bill Sign-up program over 100% of the effected farm numbers signed-up.
