Since 1985, the Christian County 4-H has hosted Farm Day for the 1st grade students of Christian County. This field trip has taught students where their food comes by visiting a local farm, interacting with farm animals, and participating in other fun agriculture activities. Sadly, due to COVID-19 this year’s event was unable to take place. In order to still teach students about agriculture, the Virtual 4-H Farm Day video series were created. Every day during the week of May 4-8, 2020 a new video was posted on the Christian County 4-H’s YouTube and Facebook pages highlighting local 4-H members and their animals. Viewers were able learn about goats, cattle, poultry, horses, and rabbits from the 4-H members who raise them. Churning butter is a long-standing tradition of 4-H Farm Day; at the end of the week 4-H Agent Mary Anne Garnett posted a video teaching how to make homemade butter by using a mason jar. To view Virtual 4-H Farm Day videos, visit the Christian County 4-H YouTube Channel or the Christian County 4-H Facebook page. The videos were viewed 5,447 times. Viewers learned about agriculture in their community and where their food comes from.
