One message at just the right time can change someone at that very moment.....their outlook, thought, their day or even their destiny. The BCKY Rocks Project is a partnership between the Butler County Cooperative Extension Service , the Butler County Family & Consumer Sciences Agent and the Butler County Library. BC KY Rocks started at a time when our community was hurting: we had have several car wrecks, deaths, and  families hurting for one reason or another in a matter of just weeks. The FCS Agent and the Librarian were discussing what could be done to lift the moral of individuals in our community and county.  The book  "Only One You"  came to mind and one thing lead to another and the BCKY Rocks Project was formed. Individuals were encouraged to paint rocks, add inspirational, encouraging, words and then hide the rock for others to find.

Sharing wisdom from one to another is so important. Our hope was that words or acts of kindness would be embraced and shared. We wanted this project to be a springboard that would allow individuals to express meaningful quotes that might make a difference in their lives and in the lives of those around them.

There were several BCKY Rocks painting opportunities held in the community. The elementary schools, the extension office, the library, the nursing home, after school programs, home school associations, and churches have all joined together hoping that by someone finding a rock, visually seeing these simple thoughts, would make a meaningful connection and understand that they, in their own way, can truly make a difference in their own lives and in the lives of those around them. They could then celebrate their own uniqueness.

To date, there has been over 3000 rocks painted and placed in our community and surrounding communities. We try to track the rocks with our Facebook page, but not everyone has access to post their picture. There has been over 1612 hits,to the Facebook page to date.
