Local Youth finds the "Right Fit" for college because of the KY Youth Seminar

According to the the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, of the 3.2 million youth ages 16 to 24 who graduated from high school between  January and October 2019, 2.1 million (66.2 percent) were enrolled in college  in October.  Choosing a college is an exciting but stressful process for many teens.  Finding the “Right Fit” for college encompasses many factors, including academics, extracurriculars and campus culture, to name a few. This year, the Kentucky Youth Seminar offered more than just a unique educational and scholarship opportunity, it showed one youth where he wanted to attend college. He attended the Kentucky Youth Seminar and participated in the local APES program and had a college visit to Michigan planned for the week after he returned home from the seminar. Talking to him during the local APES program and the Kentucky Youth Seminar, he was determined that he was going to attend college in Michigan because of its unique center for being home to the U.S. automotive industry.  However, this trip offered an eye opening experience and the real possibility to attend the University of Kentucky.  He went on to his college visit in Michigan and even became a Junior Counselor at 4-H camp for our county that summer. Because of him doing so well at the local APES program and the State program, he was offered the chance to help with the local program this last academic year.  It was during this program that he told me of his desire to return to the state program this year and also that because of the state program, Kentucky Youth Seminar, that he decided that the University of Kentucky was the “Right Fit” for his choice in college.   He will be attending the University of Kentucky in the Fall of 2020.
