The Jefferson County Cooperative Extension Service relies on community leaders to guide and advise Extension professionals. Kentucky statues require each county to have a District Board and Extension Council to oversee Plans of Work, budgets, and staffing.
The Jefferson County Extension District Board and Extension Council is comprised of leaders in business, non-profits, the agriculture community, faith-based organizations, and Jefferson County Public Schools
In order to maximize participation, the District Board and Extension Council began to conduct business via teleconferencing.[ According to KRS statutes, a public notice was advertised and the Extension office was available
The video conference has resulted in the required quorum of participants to allow decisions to be made. The board members appreciated the ease of attending by allowing them to join from work, home, or other locations and shows respect for the member’s time.
When the Covid-19 epidemic occurred, the Extension professionals were better prepared to use teleconferencing not only with leaders and community partners but also with clients.
Since March 2020, 19 meetings and programs have been conducted in order to provide Extension information, research, and resources to over 475 people
