Hopkins County 4-H participated in a multi-county 4-H Leadership Retreat for 7th graders and above with Christian, Crittenden, and Muhlenberg Counties February 20-22, 2020. The 4-H Leadership Retreat consisted of youth participating in a three day event at Paoli Peaks, Indiana. At this retreat, youth gained valuable leadership skills, creating a larger network, and had the unique experience of either skiing, snowboarding, or snow tubing. There was a total of 41 youth and 11 adults, with Hopkins County having 11 youth and 3 adults.
Some of the activities that the youth were able to participate in was learning how to make your own breakfast from a SNAP recipe, communication skills with various games, and team building activities led by State Teen Council Officers. The agents also created an evaluation for the youth to partake in and had 39 participate. The results showed that 97% would attend next year, 94% made new friends, 8% first 4-H trip, and 82% did something outside of their comfort zone. Those numbers prove that it was a successful retreat for the youth. Christian, Hopkins, Crittenden, and Muhlenberg plan to have the 4-H Leadership Retreat again annually.
