With farming being ranked one of most dangerous occupations, there is always a need to remind our clients of this in an effort to avoid tragedy. Through a group effort between County Extension, Farm Bureau, Farm Credit Mid-America and the Cattlemen's Association, a Farm and Home Safety Program was planned and conducted for Montgomery County and hosted at the Montgomery County Extension Education Center. Dr. Mark Purschwitz an Agricultural Safety and Health Specialist with the University of Kentucky discussed General Farm Safety Topics as well as ATV Safety. The Montgomery County Ambulance Service presented a program on What to Do Until the Ambulance Gets There. Finally, a representative from St. Joseph Mt. Sterling Hospital present a program on Recognizing the Signs of a Stroke and What to Do. 90 farm family members attended this event and from a survey held at the conclusion of the program it was deemed an extremely successful program that provided very important and practical information that better prepared the audience on these safety and health issues.
