Girls positive self esteem club what do we do in a GPS club you might be asking and why is this only for girls? The club began in 2018 at Whitesburg Middle School. I was approached by students and the Family Resource Youth School Coordinator from Whitesburg Middle School. The youth had various reason that they wanted this to be a 4-H club and the first being we know the leadership skills that we learned early on through 4-H when we start being active with your program in the 3rd grade. 4-H has given these young ladies the chance to show various talents that they may not have other wise be able to show. Going to 4-H Camp, attending 4-H day camps, going to 4-H Youth Summit as a middle school youth, being in Rabbit Club, East Kentucky Science Academy, joining the Junior Teen Club, you are being to get how 4-H has made an impact on these youth.  The club has a variety of personalities and a lot of diversity within itself and it is wonderful that they girls feel like they can be themselves and feel safe to express themselves through the art lesson that we have done. These girls are very talented and come from many different walks of life. Some are raised in single parent homes, some are being raised by grandparents, some are in homes that they have been taken out of because at one point the parents abused drugs and lost the children, some are just socially very shy, some have lost parents at a very young age. The cool thing about this club is they are all the same for the 45 minutes that we meet and they have come to realize that they can all achieve a goal and work with others that are different. I meet monthly with theses girls at school and pick different 4-H Curriculum that we cover each month. The girls are always happy to have us there and they have brought up grades, some have joined other organizations, others are having better behavior, we have gained new youth in Junior Teen Club as well. 60 girls have gone though the club over the course of the years and some have stayed to be Teen Leaders in High School and in the Teen Club others have joined n others 4-H Clubs and some have left but made sure to tell me that this club helped them prepare life skills that they needed. At this present time we have 20 girls that are still very active in the club.
