Plan of Work: Family and Individual Well Being

Outcome: Initial Outcome

Often times, especially regarding children, we question whether accidents could have been prevented or not.  A child’s natural curiosity to explore and learn can make them vulnerable to avoidable outcomes. In order to educate children on these important topics, Safety Day 2019 was held.  The Bracken County Extension Office partnered with the Bracken County Conservation District and the Bracken County FFA to offer a Safety Day to local 5th graders in Bracken County. Other partners included as instructors were a deputy from the Bracken County Sheriff’s Office, local firemen from the Brooksville Volunteer Fire Department, EMT’s from the Bracken County EMS service, nurses from the local medical center,  Air Evac personnel, a pharmacist, Ky Department of Fish & Wildlife Officer, a representative from the Ky Dept. of Ag.  The day consisted of 8 different safety lessons including:  Drug Safety, Fire Safety, First Aid, prescriptions and home poisoning, Outdoor Safety, Farm Safety, and Food Safety.  A total of 127 students participated in the day.   Students stated “I never knew that could happen to me,” “I won’t take that chance again,” “I’m going to tell my little sister we both have to wear helmets,” and “I can’t have all the fun I want to this summer if I get hurt doing something silly.”
