Major Program: Master Clothing Volunteer

Plan of Work: Empowering and Developing Future Leaders

Outcome: Intermediate Outcome

Building the capacity of volunteer leaders within counties is critical for the sustainability of a community infrastructure that supports long term commitment to strengthen families. Through the guidance of Cooperative Extension, volunteers practice personal leadership skills in clubs, schools and their communities as well as develop programs to fit the needs of the communities that they volunteer in. In Grant County, the Master Clothing Volunteer program is strong.

The Master Clothing volunteers have become an asset in our programming, teaching skills that many individuals would not learn any other way. They have regular programs teaching youth and adults, beginning to advance sewing techniques, and clothing construction. In the past year, volunteers have taught numerous basic, intermediate, advanced, and specialized sewing classes. They have helped junior and senior 4-Hers go to the state level of competition with skirts, vests, and quilt squares. On top of all this, they also give their time to judge county fairs.

Our volunteers have reached numerous individuals, teaching 368.5 hours, and giving back to the community 106.5 hours of service over the past year. These volunteers are a testament to how Family and Consumer Sciences Extension can facilitate and empower leaders within a community.
