Planning Unit: Wolfe County CES

Major Program: 4-H Agriculture Core Curriculum AND Natural Resources

Plan of Work: Developing Leadership, Citizenship, Heath & Life Skills Among Youth

Outcome: Intermediate Outcome

As a 7th grade student Grant Rogers was selected as a delegate from Wolfe County to participate in the Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences Academy. The NRSci Academy is a three year commitment where the student spends a year studying all three core component areas of the program which are water, forestry and wildlife. At the end students who have shown leadership and interest in representing the Academy can apply to be a NRSci Academy Ambassador. Grant enjoyed his time so much in the program that he wanted to spend a year promoting this program to the new youth that had been chosen to participate. Grant was selected as an Ambassador of the program where he focused on helping the Wildlife Group. During this time, Grant realized his passion for wildlife management and decided that he wanted to attend college to pursue this degree path. After he graduates college he would like to spend his life educating people about wildlife management as either an extension associate or working for the division of fish and wildlife. Grant contributes his desire to attend college to the fact he was exposed to campus through this program as well as by showing him possible career paths within wildlife management. Without his participation in the Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences Academy Grant would be without a direction for a career. Before he had no plans of attending college and did not know what he wanted to do for a career.
