Planning Unit: Johnson County CES

Major Program: 4-H Leadership Core Curriculum

Plan of Work: Enhancing communication skills through public speaking and expressive arts

Outcome: Initial Outcome

The Johnson County Extension Council and 4-H Program Council identified the need for youth opportunities in life skills and leadership as a priority for the 2019-2020 Plan of Work. As a result of this directive, Extension personnel, teachers and school systems worked together to provide 4-H Programming in the form of organized 4-H School clubs. These clubs organized in the Fall of 2019 and facilitated the election process to select leaders for their clubs. Candidates were nominated, campaigned and gave speeches to their club members. Elections were held for members to cast their votes for the club's leadership team. A total of 22 school clubs elected 132 officers who hold the leadership positions of President, Vice-President, Secretary, Reporter, Community Service Representative and Recreation Leader in each of the 22 clubs. These officers have attended Officer's training and in October 2019 will begin the process of conducting their business meetings and choosing community service projects while using Parliamentary Procedure. We are excited to assist these young people in the development of their leadership skills and will update our story later in the year to highlight their additional successes and achievements.
